Wellington is the windiest city in the world. Despite that, most houses are built from wood and corrugated iron. Now I know where the inspiration for “The Three Little Pigs” children’s story came from. Fortunately there’s no sign of the wolf.

I was enthralled by the song of the native Tui bird (no it’s not the emblem of a travel company). It sounds like electronic beatboxing.

We took the Cable car to the top of the hill and had a pleasant stroll around the Botanic gardens.

New Zealanders (“Kiwis”) don’t take Christmas very seriously. There’s hardly any sign of it. Very few decorations around and very little special food in the shops. I’m not missing the western over-commercialisation though.
The snow on the mountains is one of the few Christmassy sights.
