Cairo

We had a couple of days on our own in Cairo between the Alexandria and Egypt/Jordan G Adventures tours. We were lucky to have the same brilliant guide, Manar, for the next tour.

We started the tour with a walking tour around the Islamic and Coptic district.

Then we visited the “Hanging church”. It’s name comes from the fact that it is suspended over an old Roman tower.

Next we visited the Mohamed Ali Mosque.

From the bus, we caught our first glimpse of the Giza pyramids in the distance.

We took a relaxing boat trip on the Nile on a traditional “Felluca” sailing boat.

In the evening, we sampled some traditional Egyptian food: Koshary and Falafel. Koshary is a carb-loaded mix of pasta, rice, and lentils.
