Auvergne & Burgundy

On route to Burgundy, we stopped in Tauves in the Auvergne region. The region is heavily forested and very mountainous with volcanoes and thermal spas.

We headed out in the car for a day trip and stumbled upon the village of Chastreix where we had coffee (made from tap water).

Then we drove on and randomly discovered Besse en Chandesse for lunch…

On the way back we stopped at Lake Pavin, which is in a crater of a volcano.

After Auvergne, it was time to move on to Burgundy. We found a campsite in Santenay, which was well-placed to explore the wine region.

Ronnie persuaded Michelle that bike was the best way to experience the area. We cycled 20km along the Voie Verte (old railway line) to Nolay.

Will it start?

We stopped in Nolay for lunch.

The next day we drove to the important Burgundy wine town of Beaune.

Ronnie was keen to cycle part of the “Voie de Vignes” (“wine way”) to do a vineyard crawl by bike, and to do some tasting.
