Jodhpur

Jodhpur, whilst a big city, was a refreshing change from Delhi. It’s known as the Blue City. Normally only people from the highest Brahmin caste could use the colour blue, but the the locals were granted permission to do so as a social leveler by the enlightened ruler.

You can see why it’s called the Blue City

Polo is widely played in the region, and Jodhpur is famous for providing its name to the riding breeches.

The dramatic Mehrangarh Fort guards the city. It is associated with the Hindu god Shiva, and hence also the sun. The fort complex was built over a period of 500 years. It is massive, and includes the royal residence, a museum open to the public, and a hotel.
