We took the bus to Udaipur, stopping at Roopraj’s weaving croft on the way. This is world famous and one of the top weaving places in India.
Despite our normal travel rules, we couldn’t resist buying a (small) mat which we now need to carry for the next few weeks.
Udaipur is known as the City of Lakes / The Venice of the East / White City (in contrast to the Blue City Jodhpur). The City Palace reigns over the city.

In the evening we went to the Bagore Ki Haveli Cultural show.
The next day we took a cycling trip by the lakes and through small villages. The lakes were beautiful and relaxing and people, especially the children, were very friendly.
(Amazingly Michelle volunteered under no pressure to go cycling. Photo unfortunately is blurred but available if anyone needs proof!)
We stopped for Chai (sweet milky tea).
We visited the massive City Palace. It has been built since 1553 by 22 generations of the Rajput “Royal family”. They never succumbed to the British occupation of India.

We took a boat trip on the lakes. In my view, the “Venice of the East” is more beautiful than the real Venice. The James Bond film Octopussy was filmed here.

In the evening we took a cooking class in a family home. The Pakoras were so delicious, we ate too many before the main course(s)!

After 2 nights in Udaipur we head to the village of Jojawar the next day.
