The Taj Mahal was completed in the mid 1,600’s by Shah Jahan. It was a mausoleum for his fourth, and favourite, wife Mumtaz Mahal. The others must have been very jealous.
It’s built from white marble. It is symmetrical and all four sides are the same.
Our local guide claimed that it is the most beautiful building in the world, and it’s hard to argue with that.
The early morning mist added an extra touch of mistery
The surrounding Minarets are leaning at 2 degrees so that they would fall away in the case of an earthquake.
The inscriptions are a combination of Islamic and Hindu. They aren’t some kind of paint, but are actually black marble pieces embedded in the white marble. The designs are larger at the top so that they appear the same size when viewed from below.
Now returning to Delhi for the last night of the tour.
