We have a very international group. Our CEO (Chief Experience Officer) is from Zimbabwe, our driver from South Africa, and in our group of 18 we have people from Canada, Australia, Belgium, Mexico, Switzerland, USA, Denmark, Germany, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Scotland (Ronnie), and Wales (Michelle).
We spent two nights camping in Etosha National Park. Michelle was in her element camping as usual! Etosha is huge: 4,800 sq km. There is a massive salt pan from a dried up lake after a river changed its course.
We travelled most of the day on safari through the park on 4×4 vehicles. At one point the driver cut the engine to be quiet near the animals and it wouldn’t start again. Luckily the other vehicle for our group was nearby and helped to get us started again. You don’t want to be without water for long in the desert!

Mostly by accident we came at the best time, at the end of the dry season before the rains so the animals gather near the watering holes.
Absolutely amazing to see so many wild animals up close. In all we saw lions, elephants, giraffes, rhino, wildebeest, springbok, warthog (Pumba), ostriches, zebra, oryx, red hartebeest, jackal, impala, kudu, kori bustard (large bird). Often many of them were in the same view at the same time. They give the lions a wide berth but still need to get to the watering holes.
We saw 30 different lions in one day. The previous record for the longest serving guide was 23, so we were very lucky.
