Cartageña

We took a short flight to Cartageña, arriving late in the afternoon.

Freddy, our guide surprised us with horse and carts to take us to dinner.

The next day we had more time to explore the old walled city.

After dark

The next morning we took a trip to Castillo San Filipe Fortress which defended the city…

Next stop the market…

Pelicans waiting at the fish market
A round of small beers at 10am – it was hot

We then took a walk around the old Getsemani neighbourhood. Very colourful and artistic.

Then back to the main town…

Cartageña does suffer from being overwhelmed with huge cruise ships dumping thousands of tourists on the city at one time. As a result it’s very overcommercialised. Vendors accept US dollars directly. It’s still very pretty and worth seeing though.
