Wadi Rum

We headed off for a desert experience at Wadi Rum. In Arabic, a Wadi is a valley, ravine, or channel that is dry except in the rainy season.

The group jumped into a few 4×4 trucks to head into the desert.

Arriving at our desert “camp” for the night

We then went for a drive in the desert to visit a few sites.

Apparently Star Wars fans will recognise some of these scenes.

This rock contains Nabataean drawings and writing in Aramaic.

We stopped at a Bedouin tent which is setup for tourists. The Arab man made us tea.

And then he played a “Rababa”, a single-stringed instrument made from goatskin.

A few of us climbed this rock arch.

Then we headed back to our “camp” for dinner.

Friendly camp cat. Her name is just “the cat” (in Arabic)

They then cooked our dinner in a pot buried on coals in the ground. Customarily, this is reserved for special guests.
