We had our final group farewell dinner in Playa del Carmen. Consistent with tradition, Ronnie wrote a Purple poem and recited it for the group.
Encountering Mayans
A Purple poem by Ronnie
In Antigua the group was made new by the addition of another few
In the hotel we did meet and new friends we did greet
Antigua the city made by Spain where the house colours are not plain
By the river that is sweet on a boat, to a hotel that seems to float
Through mangroves to Livingston we came where Garifuna culture is not the same
Tikal the Mayan’s city of glory sure can tell many a story
We all stared in jubilation, at buildings planned on the Pliades constellation
When the guide did clap we all heard the singing of the Quetzal bird
In Belize through caves we did float on rubber tubes – not in a boat
In the ATM cave we had an awesome time when over wet rocks we did climb
The Mayans when it was too dry made gifts to gods in the sky
To the rain god Chaac they did offer the life of their Crystal daughter
Caye Caulker the island that is split was with us a great hit
On a bike the island we did see with the kids from Ocean Academy
At Hol Chan reef snorkelling we did go, it’s the second biggest after the Great Barrier you know
In the lagoon swimming with the Manatee lots of varieties of fish to see
We did really have to pray not to catch the tail of the Stingray
They say the sharks are Nurse they’re sure, but whose wounds do they cure
A lucky few did even tell of seeing the Turtle swimming in its shell
Tati the caring mother hen, always guiding her chickens where and when
You just have to stop and stare at her lovely smile or her blue hair
Kelsey always taking the piss, her sister Jordan she likes to diss
Jordan’s like a water baby, more a mermaid than a lady
Music gets Scott in the groove to show off his best dance moves
Sarah her muscles she likes to ease, a massage does her really please
In the kayak Rick and Rosemary effortlessly glide paddling from side to side
Paddles totally in sync, Rosemary pulling the strings I think
Bernd making funny faces can be seen looking just like Mr. Bean
Liz her hair always has to be “just so”, but it wasn’t when on the boat you know
Ronnie’s jokes are really bad, from the book of a Dad
Michelle she was so very brave battling her fears in a cave
Alan stuck in the floating tube, to get him out we nearly needed lube
Amad does always disappear, but when it’s time to leave he magically is here
For Sean it is really rough, that his trips are always off
Glen on a bike is faster than a car, but it’s only to get to the bar
After lots of Punches of Rum, Carolyn falls down on her bum bottom
We don’t understand why Leo is so thin, when with food she is the dustbin
Now after El Hongo for our final dinner, everyone feeling like a winner
Salut!
Ronnie
