Vardzia and Akhaltsikhe

Not wanting another night stopover in Tbilisi, we travelled from Yerevan back over the border into Georgia via Tbilisi and on to Akhaltsikhe. That was a long day in two shared mini-buses (Marshrutkas) and the Tbilisi Metro to connect two bus stations in Tbilisi.  We cruised through the Metro like locals, still having our Metro card and knowing exactly where to go.

Akhaltsikhe is well worth a visit in its own right for Rabati castle, but is also a good stopping off point to visit the cave monastery of Vardzia.

Then back to Akhaltsikhe and Rabati castle…
