Travel unpaused – Caucasus

It’s been a while since we returned from our last trip in February. There have been a few changes since then! The primary reason for travelling now has been re-inforced even further – if that was necessary. We have also moved house. That was a huge project after 18 years of 4 people collecting stuff in a big house. Downsizing simplifies our life and enables us to free some capital to keep doing adventurous travelling for longer before we have to climb back onto the gravy train again. It also makes things much more manageable at home. Cameron has an easier, secure home for his next three years at Uni. Daniel knows we’re still not far away as he enters the last year of his MSc. The cats are also very settled with their very expensive cat-flap in our patio doors so they can get into the garden and the trees behind.

So finally we’re free to get back on the road. Timing- and logistics-wise some of the Stans / Silk Road will have to wait for next year. So we’re doing the Caucasus now. Starting in Baku, Azerbaijan by the Caspian sea and working west to the Black Sea / Mediterranean. We fly to Baku, Azerbaijan and return from Dalaman in Turkey. In between we travel through Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, and across Turkey. Only the required outbound and return flights and the first couple of nights hotels are booked so we could get our visas for Azerbaijan and Turkey (Georgia, Armenia available on entry – we hope!). The rest we make up as we go along… Watch this space…

STOP PRESS. Just booked Turkmenistan as part of our Stans / Silk Road trip for September 2020. You need to do Turkmenistan with a travel agent to get a Visa. So we’re going with Intrepid. We’ll do Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan on our own beforehand.
